Mailelani is a love story…

Two people from opposite sides of the world, with the same heart for others.

Kitiona, a young, active Samoan village boy with abs to die for and Sylvie, a young and adventurous Swiss girl who lived the first 3 years of her life in Madras, India (now known as Chennai)

Their story begins where they met, YWAM, Honolulu.
YWAM: Youth With A Mission, is a Missions organisation created to share the gospel all while serving and helping the people of the countries travelled to.

This love for people stuck with them long after they had finished their time in YWAM. After marrying, living in Switzerland for 10 years and having their first two daughters, they decided it was time to move to Samoa and start a business that would not only benefit their family but their community as well.

Don’t give up

Their first and best products were of course US!
The Mailelani Girls: Shana, Kezia and Tailani
(left to right, youngest to eldest)

teehee

Kiti and Sylvie started their skin care venture without a clue of where or how to start. All they knew was that they were in Samoa for a reason, Samoa had potential and coconut oil was a GOOD THING.

It wasn’t always easy, Kiti didn’t know what he was doing at first but he was determined to do it, and do it well!
After 2 years of experimenting with local ingredients, our first soap was released in the year 2000.

It was just one simple, fragrance free soap but this was the beginning of something much bigger than we ever thought possible.

20 years later, here we are with an entire skin care range available world wide.

Meet the Team!

Tailani Salanoa – General Manager

Q. What is your favourite Mailelani Product?

A. Hmm. I have MANY but my favourite product has to be the Papaya & Mango Oil, I use it every day for my body and hair after I shower, I also have to mention the light day cream and the turmeric balm that I use daily also

Q. What is your dream job?

A. I have 2 big dreams, one is to be CEO of Mailelani International (yes I have BIG dreams for this small family-owned business) and also to own my own restaurant.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself?

A.I am the first of 3 daughters, I enjoy the fine things in life, like good food, good company and a good movie to watch on a lazy Saturday evening. Cooking is one of my favourite things.

Growing up I never imagined myself being involved in Mailelani, it was never forced upon us but fast forward to 2013 and this unexpected desire to be a part of Mailelani just fell on my head and here we are 🙂

Did I mention that cooking is my favourite thing?

Q. What is your highlight of 2020?

A.To still be able to have Mailelani, 2020 was such a difficult year for so many businesses and we are blessed to still be running and growing!

Q. What is one piece of advice you think everyone should know?

A. Your dreams and goals in life don’t come easy. The road is long and hard but it is 100% worth it. Do not lose heart and do not lose hope.

Also – DO NOT pick at your pimples they DO leave scars when you’re older and always remember to suck your tummy in, it builds core strength without you realising it 😉

Kezia Salanoa – Creative Director

Q. What is your favourite Mailelani Product?

A. All the products are my favourite. Haha but! Since it’s only one I’ll give you three 🤣 My favourite products are the Turmeric balm (why would you use anything else?), vanilla/Koko Samoa soap (it’s a dessert on your skin), papaya/mango oil (it smells like home)

Q. What is your dream job?

A. To become a director and director of photography

Q. Tell us a little about yourself?

A. I am 24 years old, the 2nd of three girls, I am currently studying the art of filmmaking in Hawaii.
I have a passion for creativity and all art forms (hence why filmmaking 😉)
I love family time, food and puppies 🐶
And I love living on an island 🏝

A. My DREAM JOB? *laughs in dad* professional sleeper *laughs in dad again*I want to be in my plantation and garden all day. Plant some taro and anything that will grow.

Q. Tell us a little about yourself?

Q. What is your role at Mailelani?

A. My role…… *laughs in mum. Is to cry, I cry, I laugh, I yell at everyone and make sure that everyone is doing their job *laughs in mum*, I sit in front of the computer. Is that enough?
I KEEP THE MAILELANI PASSION GOING. I am very passionate when it comes to Mailelani, it is my baby.

Q. What is your favourite Mailelani Product?

A. The soap – because I use it the most. Even as a shampoo. It is the best shampoo for my short hair, and everybody likes my hair 😉

Q. What is your dream job?

A. Oh my dream job *starts dreaming* … The thing is that I am already doing my dream job *starts passionately hitting her planner*

Q. Tell us a little about yourself?

A. I LOVE chocolate… (literally the only thing she has and wants to say) I recently turned blonde, it was an impulsive lockdown hair transformation, but I LOVE my blonde hair.
My life has been like fine wine. It’s getting better with age. Not that I didn’t have a good life growing up, I’ve had a good life, but I’m really enjoying the journey. With all the hardships and everything, my life is good, I am blessed.

Q. What is your highlight of 2020?

A. I’ll tell you the highlight of 2020 – when covid hit, fear hit harder, but then Jesus reminded me “without faith you can not please me”. So I made the decision to please Him and He is carrying us through.

Q. What is one piece of advice you think everyone should know?

A. Let God lead your life, He knows best and only has the best for you and when you make mistakes, try again. Don’t give up
